WHOLE-BUILDING PRE-FILTRATION SYSTEMS

WHOLE-BUILDING PRE-FILTRATION SYSTEMS

The state of our water supply

Rapid urbanisation has brought many conveniences to everyday life, but it has also brought pollution. Water sources are contaminated with impurities and toxic substances from industrial, agricultural and household waste…

Around 80% of apartment blocks, office buildings, … today use mains water directly, with no additional filtration. This is tap water that water supply companies draw from natural sources such as rivers and boreholes. After treatment, it travels through the public mains to each household. Its quality is not always consistent because of factors such as burst or leaking pipes and contamination in storage tanks… This leads to problems such as yellowish water, black sediment, a chlorine smell, limescale, heavy metals, arsenic…

Signs of contaminated water

  1. Water containing metal ions such as calcium and magnesium is hard water. It causes scale to build up in kettles, water heaters and washing machines, and leaves laundry stiff and yellowed.
  2. Leaking pipes can lead to lead contamination. Lead is a heavy metal that is extremely toxic to people, especially babies and young children.
  3. Toxic organic compounds formed when water is disinfected with chlorine are one of the causes of cancer.
  4. The water smells of chlorine. Chlorine is used for final disinfection and leaves an unpleasant odour.

Point-of-entry pre-filtration system

Overview

This is a filtration system installed at the point of entry to supply clean water to homes, residential areas, office buildings, … covering all daily water needs. A whole-building water filtration system treats water at the source, removing chemicals and harmful impurities.

The system works as follows: water first passes through point-of-entry pre-filtration, which removes dirt and algae. It then moves to the softening stage, which uses electrostatic resin technology to remove heavy metals completely, and finally to UF (ultrafiltration), which removes toxic substances, viruses and harmful bacteria. The result is high-quality water free of unpleasant issues, protecting both your health and your water-using appliances.

Point-of-entry pre-filtration unit

Components

The point-of-entry whole-building filtration system consists of:

  • Composite sediment filter cartridge
  • 3-way valve
  • Water-softening cartridge
  • 5M stainless steel fine-filter housing holding up to 7 30-inch cartridges.
  • Intermediate water storage tank.
  • UF ultrafiltration membrane system.
  • Control panel.
  • Stainless steel pump
  • Inline piping and isolation valves.

Functions

  • The system includes equipment that removes chemicals and heavy metal ions: a filter column containing activated carbon and quartz sand. The building filtration system can absorb chemicals in the water such as organic impurities, chlorine, insecticides and toxic pesticides,…as well as heavy metal ions such as manganese, iron, lead, zinc…
  • The unit is fitted with a mechanical 3-way valve so it can be backwashed during use
  • Water softener: uses 1 filter column filled with specialist media to remove Ca2+, Mg2+ ions…which cause hard water, producing soft water that is better for users’ health
  • The equipment is highly durable, its media rarely needs replacing, and it can be regenerated periodically during use.
Improving water quality means improving quality of life, because water is vital and indispensable to the human body.

Our recommendation

Given the current state of the water supply, as specialists we recommend that developers, water users, … consider installing a point-of-entry pre-filtration system to protect the health of you, your family, your organisation and your workplace.
