Modern air-source heat pump technology. Heat pumps are already used in many areas of everyday life, such as grain drying and building heating and cooling, and above all they can heat water reliably in any conditions.
The system runs a continuous cycle: Evaporation – Compression – Condensation – Expansion – Evaporation.
The unit contains an internal compressor. When it runs, the refrigerant absorbs heat from low-temperature, low-pressure air in the evaporator and is compressed into a high-temperature, high-pressure gas. This gas passes into the condenser, where it exchanges heat with the water. The cold water absorbs the heat and becomes hot water.
Compared with traditional water heating and individual electric storage heaters, a central hot water system offers clear advantages. With storage heaters, every bathroom needs its own unit, you have to wait for the water to heat up, and there is a risk of shock from electrical leakage. A central system overcomes all of these drawbacks.
The only drawback of the system is its higher upfront investment. However, thanks to its energy efficiency, the investment is typically recovered within 3 years compared with traditional water heating.
